Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla is a state government technical university in Sambalpur district, Odisha. It began on 12 August 1956 as University College of Engineering (UCE), Burla, the first engineering college of the state, and became a unitary, non-affiliating university on 1 July 2009 under Orissa Act 9 of 2009. Named after the freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai, the university is recognised by UGC and occupies nearly 300 acres near the Hirakud Dam. VSSUT is NAAC Grade 'B' accredited and was placed in the 151-200 band of NIRF 2025 (Engineering).

Yes. VSSUT is a state government university established under Orissa Act 9 of 2009 (from 1 July 2009), recognised by UGC. It grew out of University College of Engineering, Burla, founded on 12 August 1956.
B.Tech (including lateral entry), B.Arch, M.Tech in 20 specialisations, MCA, M.Sc., Integrated M.Sc. and Ph.D. From 2025-26 it also offers B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering, Safety & Fire Engineering and Mechanical & Smart Manufacturing.
The first-year university fee is ₹41,040 in the Regular Category and ₹85,140 in the Self-Sustaining Category (₹29,040 and ₹40,140 for TFW seats). The four-year Regular Category university fee is about ₹1,31,990 for a day scholar. The optional Hall of Residence fee is ₹54,000 per year.
First-year seats are Chemical 63, Civil 128, CSE 127, Electrical 128, EEE 63, ETC 128, Mechanical 129, Metallurgical & Materials 63, Production 63 and CSE (AI & ML) 63, plus 30 each in Biomedical Engineering, Safety & Fire Engineering and Mechanical & Smart Manufacturing. B.Arch has 20 seats.

VSSUT offers B.Tech in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Science & Engineering (including AI & ML), Chemical, Metallurgical & Materials, Production and Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and from 2025-26 in Biomedical Engineering, Safety & Fire Engineering and Mechanical & Smart Manufacturing. It also offers B.Arch, B.Tech lateral entry, M.Tech in 20 specialisations, MCA, M.Sc., Integrated M.Sc. and Ph.D. B.Tech and B.Arch admissions are based on JEE (Main) merit through OJEE counselling, while M.Tech admissions use GATE scores. All engineering programmes are AICTE-approved and several are NBA-accredited.
Under Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dipak Kumar Sahoo, the university is in a phase of expansion: the redevelopment of VSSUT Burla (Phase-I, Package-I) has been approved with a total outlay of ₹929.96 crore, and the Sambalpur Educational and Research Cluster Harbour (SEARCH) was formed under NEP 2020 at the 17th Convocation on 26 December 2025.
