Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore Admissions
Admission Process Overview
Below is the complete admission information including eligible exams, eligibility criteria, admission process, and important notes for each program offered.
Required Entrance Exams
VITEEE (VIT Engineering Entrance Examination) for B.Tech/B.Arch; VITEEE score also usable for a small number of non-engineering UG programmes per official norms. VITBEE/CAT/XAT/MAT for MBA. VITMEE for M.Tech/M.Sc./MCA. VITREE for Ph.D./Direct Ph.D./Integrated Ph.D.
Eligibility Criteria
Varies by programme - B.Tech requires 10+2 with PCM/PCB (as applicable) and English with the officially prescribed minimum aggregate (10% relaxation for SC/ST and applicants from Jammu & Kashmir and specified North-Eastern states, per the official UG Fee Structure page's eligibility notes); other programmes have their own minimum-qualification norms published in the respective VITMEE/VITBEE/VITREE brochures.
Admission Process
For B.Tech: (1) Register and appear for VITEEE - a Computer-Based Test, roughly 2.5 hours, with negative marking (per third-party aggregation - VITEEE-2026 was cited as 125 MCQs across five sections including Aptitude and English, total 500 marks; confirm the current-year pattern on viteee.vit.ac.in, since the exam pattern is revised periodically); (2) Results are announced and a merit rank is generated (the precise score-normalisation formula is not publicly disclosed, per aggregator reporting); (3) Online counselling is conducted in multiple phases based on rank bands - each phase opens counselling to progressively higher rank numbers, with candidates ranked above roughly 1,00,000 becoming eligible only for VIT-AP and VIT Bhopal in later phases (per third-party aggregation, not independently confirmed against an official phase-cutoff table in this session); (4) Candidates pay a non-refundable counselling fee (cited by aggregators as around INR 5,900) and complete choice-filling across campus/branch preferences; (5) Seats are allotted by rank, preference and availability, assigning a fee 'Category' (1 = lowest fee/best rank, 5 = highest fee/no scholarship); (6) Selected candidates pay an advance fee, then the balance fee and report to campus with original documents for verification. GVSDP scholarships (tuition waivers, up to 100% for the very top ranks) are awarded automatically to top-500 VITEEE rank holders per official/aggregator-sourced scholarship rules.
