About All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), Bhubaneswar
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, is one of India's premier government medical institutions — an Institute of National Importance established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Originally named Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS Bhubaneswar was one of the first six new-generation AIIMS campuses set up across India alongside AIIMS Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Jodhpur, and Rishikesh — all established with the national goal of bridging regional disparities in quality medical education and tertiary healthcare. The foundation stone was laid in 2003 and academic operations commenced in 2012, making it one of the earliest among the new AIIMS cohort to begin teaching. Located at Sijua, Patrapada, Bhubaneswar — Odisha's capital city, known as the 'Temple City of India' — AIIMS Bhubaneswar sits on a 100-acre campus of modern infrastructure. The institution is mentored by AIIMS New Delhi — the apex institution of Indian medical education — ensuring that academic standards, research culture, and clinical protocols are aligned with the highest national benchmarks. The institute has been consistently ranked by NIRF: #14 in the Medical category (NIRF 2025), #15 (NIRF 2024), and #100 overall — reflecting its rapid ascent as a premier medical institution in eastern India. AIIMS Bhubaneswar's attached teaching hospital has over 920+ operational beds across 43 medical departments and specialty services. It serves as a critical health hub for patients from Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand — a vast multi-state catchment that ensures the diversity and complexity of clinical cases that is essential for high-quality medical training. The hospital provides fully functional emergency services, advanced ICUs, surgical blocks, outpatient departments, diagnostics, and super-specialty care. MBBS students receive integrated clinical teaching from early in their training, with early clinical exposure built into the CBME curriculum framework. The institute offers MBBS (125 seats), MD/MS programs across multiple specializations, DM/M.Ch super specialty programs, B.Sc (Hons) Nursing, B.Sc in Medical Technology (Radiography) and Medical Lab Technology, M.Sc programs, and PhD. Admissions to MBBS are through NEET UG via 100% MCC counselling; PG admissions are through INI-CET — the common entrance test for all AIIMS, JIPMER, and other INIs. The NEET UG 2025 closing rank for AIIMS Bhubaneswar was 706 (General, Round 3) to 785 (General, last round) — among the top AIIMS in India by student preference. The MBBS fee at AIIMS Bhubaneswar is ₹5,856 for the entire 5.5-year course (one-time payment at admission) — one of the most affordable medical educations in the world. Mess charges are approximately ₹4,000/month extra. MBBS internship stipend: ₹26,300/month. MD/MS junior residents receive entry pay of ₹56,100/month plus allowances as per 7th CPC. All MBBS students are mandated to stay in hostels. Hostel total fee (including hostel rent, Gymkhana, pot funds, electricity, mess security): ₹5,400–₹7,800. The combination of world-class infrastructure, nominal fee, government stipend, NIRF top-15 ranking, and AIIMS brand makes AIIMS Bhubaneswar one of the most sought-after medical institutions in eastern India.
