About All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), Raipur
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur (AIIMS Raipur) is one of the six AIIMS institutions established in 2012 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). It is declared an Institute of National Importance and operates autonomously under the AIIMS (Amendment) Act, 2012. The institute was founded with the vision of correcting regional imbalances in tertiary healthcare and attaining self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education across central India. AIIMS Raipur is situated at Tatibandh, GE Road, Raipur — opposite the Tatibandh Gurudwara — built at a cost of ₹840 crore (approx. US$99 million). The total campus covers 103.63 acres, of which 63.85 acres houses the hospital and college complex and 39.78 acres is the residential complex. It is 26 km from Swami Vivekananda Airport and 10.6 km from Raipur Junction railway station. The institute admitted its first batch of 50 MBBS students in September 2012. Intake was raised to 100 from 2013 and further to 125 from 2020. All departments for postgraduate MD/MS education are now functional, and multiple super-specialty (DM/MCh) departments have also commenced training. The campus houses a Medical College Hospital (MCH), a College of Nursing, a Dental College, a State Virology Laboratory, and several satellite institutions. AIIMS Raipur is consistently ranked among India's top 35 medical colleges by NIRF, ranked 31st in NIRF 2025 (Medical category) with a score of 58.44. It is the No. 1 medical institution in Chhattisgarh. As per NIRF 2025, the median salary for placed MBBS graduates is ₹15 LPA and for PG graduates ₹16 LPA. The hospital has received the Kayakalp Award from the MoHFW for cleanliness excellence. The Central Library was awarded the ERMED Usage Award by the National Medical Library in 2016. Being geographically located at the centre of India, AIIMS Raipur serves Chhattisgarh, parts of eastern Maharashtra (Vidarbha), Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand, with a highly diverse patient mix. The 960+ bed hospital features modern ICUs, modular operation theatres, MRI/CT/PET scan facilities, and comprehensive emergency services.
