About Bankura Sammilani Medical College, Bankura
Bankura Sammilani Medical College (BSMC), popularly known as BS Medical College, is one of West Bengal's oldest government medical institutions. Originally established in 1922 as a hospital and later upgraded to a medical college in 1956 under the Bankura Sammilani Trust, it was taken over by the Government of West Bengal in 1961. Affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the college offers MBBS (200 seats), MD, MS, BSc Nursing, GNM, and various paramedical diploma courses. BSMC operates across two sprawling campuses – Lokepur and Gobindanagar – in Bankura town. The institution caters to over 11 lakh OPD patients and about 1.5 lakh casualty/emergency patients annually, making it a major tertiary healthcare centre for Bankura district, adjacent districts, and neighbouring states. Central Library
A large, ultramodern Central Library is available on the Gobindanagar campus. It houses an extensive collection of medical textbooks, reference books, journals, and e-resources. Lecture Theatres & Classrooms
BSMC has five lecture theatres across both campuses. The Lokepur campus houses two lecture theatres each with 180-seat capacity, equipped with e-classroom facilities. The Gobindanagar campus has three lecture theatres – two with 180-seat capacity and one large one with 350-seat capacity – all equipped with audiovisual aids and e-classroom technology. A new 350-capacity lecture theatre was recently added.

Laboratories
Well-equipped pre-clinical and para-clinical laboratories are available across both campuses. These include Anatomy Dissection Halls, Physiology labs, Biochemistry labs, Pathology and Microbiology labs, and Forensic Medicine facilities. Recently renovated and extended as part of large-scale infrastructural modernisation. Central Research Unit (CRU) supports institutional research projects under the Institutional Ethics Committee.

Sports & Playground
A playground is available on campus, with construction of a boundary wall currently underway. The college encourages extracurricular and sports activities for students. The Students' Council organises various indoor and outdoor sports events.
