About Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital
Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital (BGMCH) is one of West Bengal's newest government medical institutions, established in 2022 under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme Phase II (CSS II) by the Government of West Bengal. Built on a 20.53-acre campus within the existing Barasat District Hospital complex at 80 Jessore Road, North 24 Parganas, BGMCH admitted its first MBBS batch in 2022-23 with 100 seats annually through NEET-UG counselling. The college is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The attached 600-bed teaching hospital – which traces its origins to the Hatkola Dispensary (1854) and was taken over by the Government of West Bengal in 1945 – serves approximately 3,000 OPD patients daily, conducts 2,200+ laboratory tests every 24 hours, and handles around 20 deliveries per day. BGMCH also offers DNB programmes (16 seats, NBE approved), Nursing, and Paramedical courses. Its strategic location in North 24 Parganas, the most populous district in India, ensures large-scale clinical exposure to students from early years of training.
Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital offers students courses in different areas. Candidates can enroll in UG and PG programmes based on their interests and career goals. Admissions are offered based on merit or entrance exam performance. Check below the Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital courses along with their tuition fees and eligibility criteria:
