Baba Raghav Das Medical College (BRD Medical College), Gorakhpur, is one of the oldest and most prestigious government medical colleges in eastern Uttar Pradesh, established in 1969 — with the first MBBS batch of 50 students admitted in 1972. Named after freedom fighter and social reformer Baba Raghav Das, BRD Medical College is affiliated with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU), Lucknow, and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The 147.6-acre lush green campus houses the main medical college building, Nehru Hospital (950+ bed tertiary care teaching hospital — the only tertiary care centre in a 300 km² region around Gorakhpur), doctors' staff quarters, resident doctor hostel, boys and girls hostels, playgrounds, and sports facilities. The college offers 150 MBBS seats and 90 PG (MD/MS/Diploma) seats across 20 disciplines. Nehru Hospital accommodates X-ray, CT scan, Doppler ultrasound, ICU, epidemic ward, blood bank, drug distribution centre, ART/VCTC centre, DOTS/microscopy centre, and a 450-seat lecture theatre.
