About Calcutta National Medical College, Kolkata

Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMC), popularly known as Chittaranjan Hospital, is one of India's oldest, most prestigious, and historically significant government medical institutions. The college was established in 1948 through the amalgamation of two institutions: the National Medical Institute (founded in 1921 as part of the Non-cooperation Movement and inaugurated by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose) and the Calcutta Medical Institute. It was nationalized and brought under the Government of West Bengal's Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in 1967. Affiliated to WBUHS and recognized by the NMC and WHO, CNMC offers 250 MBBS seats annually – one of the highest intakes among government medical colleges in West Bengal. The college also runs 129 PG seats across 19 MD/MS disciplines and 8 super-speciality (DM/M.Ch) seats across 4 streams. The attached hospital has over 1,473 beds with an OPD footfall of 8,000+ patients per day across 30+ departments. CNMC is also home to the Annual Cultural Festival AGON, the biggest medical college cultural fest in Eastern India.
