About Chengalpattu Medical College, Chengalpattu
Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), established in 1965, is one of the oldest and most respected government medical institutions in Tamil Nadu, located 54 km southwest of Chennai on GST Road, Kancheepuram district. The college was originally a District Headquarters Hospital donated by Vedachalam Mudaliar (then Chairman of Chengalpattu Municipality) and upgraded by the Government of Tamil Nadu to a 250-bed teaching institution in 1965. It is the 6th government medical college established in Tamil Nadu and is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college offers 100 MBBS seats annually (increased from 50 in 2012-13), along with 91 postgraduate MD/MS seats and super-specialty DM/MCh programs across more than 35 departments. The hospital has a capacity of 1100 beds with advanced ICUs, CT/MRI, cath lab, blood bank, and over 35 departments. The 265-acre campus features a digital library, 750-seat auditorium, modern hostels, research labs, and world-class hospital wings. CMCH consistently ranks 5th among Tamil Nadu's government medical colleges.
