Chitradurga Medical College and Research Institute (CMCRI) is a government medical college established in 2023 under the Government of Karnataka, funded through a centrally sponsored scheme by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Spread across a 125-acre campus in Prashanta Nagar, Chitradurga, the college offers the MBBS programme with NMC-approved intake of 150 seats annually from the 2023-24 academic year. CMCRI is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The attached Chitradurga District Hospital (CDH) โ established over 70 years ago during the Mysuru princely state โ has been converted into a 500+ bedded teaching hospital for CMCRI. CDH serves over 1,000 OPD patients daily, ranks 1st among all 30 district hospitals in Karnataka, and is a key referral centre for rural central Karnataka. An additional 300+ bedded Multi Super Specialty Tertiary Care Hospital further enhances clinical exposure. The institution features spacious lecture halls, departmental laboratories, a central library with Indian and foreign journals, separate hostels for boys and girls, sports and recreational facilities, and a digital library. The college is located approximately 200 km from Bengaluru and about 94 km from Shivamogga Airport, in a historically significant district known for Onake Obavva and Veera Madakarinayaka. With 498+ students and 164+ faculty members, CMCRI is committed to producing competent, ethical, and community-oriented medical professionals.
