DCRUST was established on 6th November 2006 by upgrading the Chhotu Ram State College of Engineering, Murthal (CRSCE), which itself was founded in 1986 by the Haryana Government in memory of Sir Chhotu Ram (1881–1945), the great agrarian leader. The upgrade was effected through Act 29 of 2006 of the Haryana Legislature.
