About Dr. N.D. Desai Faculty of Medical Science and Research, Nadiad
Dr. N.D. Desai Faculty of Medical Science and Research (NDFMSR), established in 2019, is a private medical college located in Nadiad, Kheda district, Gujarat. It is the fifth faculty of Dharmsinh Desai University (DDU) — a prestigious private university founded in 1968 by Shri Dharmsinh Dadubhai Desai, whose Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.M. Desai is a Padma Shri awardee. Affiliated to Dharmsinh Desai University and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the college was granted its Letter of Permission (LoP) on 26 March 2019 and commenced its first MBBS batch in academic year 2019-20 with an annual intake of 150 students. The medical college is situated on a sprawling 20-acre campus within the larger 42-acre DDU campus complex on College Road, Nadiad, fulfilling all statutory requirements of the NMC. The campus houses state-of-the-art lecture halls, examination halls, demonstration rooms, well-equipped clinical laboratories, departmental museums, skill labs, a digital library, an auditorium, and indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The library is one of the most comprehensive in the region, housing 47,731 books, 6,468 magazines, 235 journals (including 48 international and 187 national journals), and extensive online digital resources. The library operates on weekdays from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM and on Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The associated teaching hospital — Dr. N.D. Desai Hospital — is a 737-bedded multi-specialty facility (designed to scale to 900 beds) that provides FREE healthcare to patients not just from Kheda district but also from surrounding under-served areas. Commissioned in 2018, the hospital offers holistic healthcare services — preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative — under the allopathic system. It is one of the few private teaching hospitals in Gujarat that provides free care to the community at this scale, reflecting the philanthropic ethos of the Desai family. The hospital is equipped with Major and Minor Operating Theatres, Ventilators, ICU, Emergency OPD, Central Oxygen Pipeline, LED Operating Lights, Fibre-optic Laryngoscope, Defibrillators, Monitoring Devices, and a Defibrillator with Cardiac Monitor and ventilator. The college offers 20 clinical and non-clinical departments covering all NMC-prescribed subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Dermatology, General Medicine, TB & Chest, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthesiology, and Radiology. Faculty are listed department-wise on the official website (medical.ddu.ac.in) with detailed CV PDFs published for full transparency. The college follows the NMC-mandated Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum with structured clinical postings from early years, ensuring students gain diverse and hands-on patient exposure. The academic calendar, timetables, clinical posting schedules, and examination details are all publicly available on the official website. The college also supports active research, publishing faculty research papers and following ethics-approved research protocols via the IEC and SRC policy documents. Postgraduate (PG) programs — MD and MS across multiple specializations — are offered with admissions through All India Medical Counselling (MCC, 50% of seats) and Gujarat State Quota counselling (50% of seats). PG cutoff for 2024 ranged from NEET PG rank 32,138 to 104,024 for MD courses (General HS) and 18,403 to 68,447 for MS courses (General HS). Campus life at NDFMSR blends rigorous academics with co-curricular development. Separate hostels for boys and girls are available on campus with gym, indoor and outdoor games, and a cafeteria. The DDU campus, known for its infrastructure and greenery, provides medical students with the advantage of a university-level environment with shared facilities including sports centres, canteens, and additional libraries. Nadiad city itself is a well-connected, rapidly growing urban centre in the Kheda district of Central Gujarat, located approximately 40 km from Ahmedabad and 65 km from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD), with Nadiad Junction Railway Station just 4 km from campus (approximately 10 minutes). The Anand-Nadiad-Kheda stretch is known as an educational hub in Gujarat.
