About Dr. S.N. Medical College, Jodhpur
Dr. Sampurnanand Medical College (Dr. SN Medical College / SNMC), Jodhpur, is one of Rajasthan's oldest and most prestigious government medical institutions, established in 1965. Named after the eminent scholar-politician Dr. Sampurnanand — who served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Governor of Rajasthan — the college has been a cornerstone of tertiary medical education and public healthcare for Western Rajasthan for six decades. The historical roots of the college's teaching hospital go even deeper: in 1932, His Highness Maharaja Ummed Singhji of Jodhpur established the Windom Hospital with 300 beds. After Independence, it was renamed Mahatma Gandhi Hospital by Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Today, the hospital has grown to an enormous 1,100 beds. This hospital, along with Mathura Das Mathur (MDM) Hospital (also known as New Teaching Hospital) and Umaid Hospital (a major maternity and women's hospital), forms SNMC's comprehensive teaching hospital complex — providing students with immense clinical diversity across all specialties. Located at Shastri Nagar, Residency Road, Jodhpur — approximately 5 km from Jodhpur Airport (Rajasthan's busiest airport), making it one of the most airport-proximate government medical colleges in India — SNMC enjoys excellent national connectivity. The campus spans a sprawling 99.11 acres with outstanding infrastructure. Academic facilities include 9 gallery-type lecture halls (capacities: 2×150, 2×350, 1×250; one equipped with e-class facility; 4 under construction), demonstration halls, 2 common rooms for boys and girls, a dedicated examination hall, the latest Medical Skills Lab, departmental museums, and an auditorium with a 750-seat capacity with audio-visual facilities. The library, spanning 9,133 sq.mt of campus built-up area, holds 30,021 books and 124 national and international medical journals — one of the largest medical college library collections in Rajasthan. SNMC offers 250 MBBS seats annually (one of the largest MBBS intakes for any government medical college in Rajasthan), 155 PG MD/MS seats across 21 disciplines (one of the largest PG offerings in western Rajasthan), and 18 Super-Specialty DM/M.Ch. seats across 5 disciplines. The total teaching hospital complex across Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, MDM Hospital, and Umaid Hospital provides over 1,200 combined beds, making SNMC's clinical training capacity unmatched in western Rajasthan. The hospitals have 29 major and 8 minor operation theatres, haemodialysis facilities, a 12-bed ICU, and community health centres at RHTC (Rural Health Training Centre) Banar (22 km) and UHTC (Urban Health Training Centre) Bhadwasia (15 km). The MBBS tuition fee is approximately ₹43,500 total (entire course) — ₹43,500 for the complete MBBS program — one of the most affordable premier government medical colleges in India. Annual fee is approximately ₹7,500–₹10,000 per year. Hostel charges are approximately ₹30,000–₹40,000 annually. 750 hostel rooms are available for both boys and girls on campus. Intern stipend is approximately ₹20,000–₹25,000 per month. Highest MBBS package ₹2,00,000/month; average MBBS package ₹70,000/month (per SelectYourUniversity 2024).
