About ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Naroda-Bapunagar, Ahmedabad
ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Naroda-Bapunagar, Ahmedabad is the newest and 41st medical college in Gujarat, established in 2025 under the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India. The NMC approved the college for 100 MBBS seats from the academic year 2025-26 following the issuance of the Essentiality Certificate by the Government of Gujarat for the 420-bed ESIC General Hospital Naroda. The college is part of ESIC's national initiative — announced in October 2024 in line with PM Modi's Independence Day address — to set up 10 new ESIC medical colleges across 8 states to create 75,000 new medical seats in 5 years. ESIC is a central government statutory body under the Ministry of Labour & Employment that provides comprehensive social security benefits to industrial and commercial workers earning up to ₹21,000/month and their families. The college is affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. Two ESIC hospitals serve as the backbone for clinical training: ESIC General Hospital Naroda (420 beds, 27-acre campus, formerly T.B. Hospital, taken over by ESIC on 1 April 2010) and ESIC Model Hospital Bapunagar (300 beds, taken over from Government of Gujarat on 01/01/2006). Together these hospitals serve over 75,000+ Insured Persons (IPs) in the Ahmedabad region from the industrial belts of Naroda, Bapunagar, GIDC, and surrounding areas (Reliance, Parle, Pepsi, Disman Pharma, Ingersoll Rand). The campus is located 7.4 km from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and 11 km from Ahmedabad Railway Station, making it very accessible. The ESIC Medical College mission aligns with ESIC's overarching mission: provide affordable healthcare education, train doctors for public service, and deliver quality healthcare to the working class and their families.
