About Father Mullers Medical College, Mangalore

Father Mullers Medical College (FMMC), also known as Father Muller Institute of Medical Education and Research (FMIMER), is one of the oldest, most prestigious, and most established private minority medical institutions in Karnataka. It is a unit of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) — a Registered Society sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Mangalore — a Religious Minority Educational Institution established primarily for the benefit of the Christian community, but open to all persons irrespective of religion, caste, or creed. The history of Father Muller Hospital traces back to 1880, when German Jesuit priest Fr. Augustus Muller S.J. began dispensing homeopathic medicines under a Banyan tree. It evolved into a leprosy hospital, then into a fully-fledged hospital complex, before postgraduate medical courses (MD/MS) were launched in 1991 and the undergraduate MBBS programme commenced in 1999. The 30-acre campus is situated at Father Muller Road, Kankanady, Mangaluru — approximately 1 km from NH-66 (Mumbai-Mangalore Highway) and 15 km from Mangalore International Airport (IXE). The college is affiliated with RGUHS Bengaluru and approved by the NMC, and is the first medical college under RGUHS to receive NAAC-'A' grade accreditation (2013), re-accredited 2021–2026 with a CGPA of 3.21. FMMC has also received NABCL accreditation and a QS I·GAUGE Diamond College Rating. Ranked #27 in India by IIRF 2023 and in the NIRF rank band 101–150, FMMC is among the top 5 Christian minority medical colleges in India. It is ranked #4 in Karnataka State Management Ranking and #10 in Open Management Ranking by MBBSCouncil 2024. The college has 277+ faculty, 150 MBBS seats, 115 PG (MD/MS) seats, super-specialty (M.Ch/DM) seats, and a wide range of Allied Health Science and Paramedical programmes across Physiotherapy, Nursing, Optometry, MLT, and more. The attached 1,250+ bedded Father Muller Hospital — with an additional rural/PG training hospital at Thumbay (Father Muller Hospital, Thumbay) and a rural health care centre at Mullerkad near Kavoor — provides comprehensive clinical training with a daily OPD of 1,500+ patients. The motto of FMCI is 'Healing and Comfort'.
