About GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Hadiyol, Himmatnagar
GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Hadiyol, Himmatnagar is a prestigious government-society medical institution established under the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), which is administered by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat. The foundation stone of the college was laid in 2012, and the institution has grown steadily to become one of the leading medical colleges in the Sabarkantha district and North Gujarat region. The college is affiliated with Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University (HNGU), Patan — one of the prominent universities of North Gujarat — and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India. As of 2015, the college is in full operational standing and currently admits 200 MBBS students annually. Located in the central part of Himmatnagar, the district headquarters of Sabarkantha district in Gujarat, the college is conveniently situated near the Government Polytechnic College on the Hadiyol–Gadhoda Road, Himmatnagar–383001. The campus is approximately 2 km from Himmatnagar Railway Station and 5 minutes from the Himmatnagar Bus Stand (State Transport), making it highly accessible by rail and road. For outstation and international students, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad is approximately 72 km away, about 1 hour and 25 minutes by road. The college and hospital occupy a sprawling 25-acre (approximately 1,03,000 square metre) campus in the heart of Himmatnagar. The campus includes the main college building, an affiliated teaching hospital, separate boys' and girls' hostels with mess facilities, a library, playgrounds, a gymnasium, cafeteria, and transportation facilities — all within the campus perimeter, providing students with a self-contained, secure, and holistic academic environment. The academic infrastructure is aligned with NMC norms and the Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) framework introduced by the National Medical Commission. The college building houses all pre-clinical and para-clinical departments including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, and Community Medicine. Each department is equipped with demonstration rooms and practical laboratories to facilitate small-group learning. The lecture hall is equipped with audiovisual aids and can accommodate 150 students, with additional demonstration rooms supporting interactive academic sessions. The attached teaching hospital, Sir Pratap General Hospital, Himmatnagar, is a Government District Hospital that has grown significantly since its establishment. The hospital currently has a functional bed capacity of 650 beds with a sanctioned capacity expanding progressively. Of these, approximately 290 beds are distributed to Medicine departments, 270 beds to Surgery, and 90 beds to Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The hospital provides comprehensive healthcare services — preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative — under the allopathic system to all patients irrespective of caste, creed, or economic status. The hospital houses Pre-clinical, Para-clinical, and Clinical departments covering Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine, ENT, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Community Medicine, and Emergency Medicine, providing students with comprehensive clinical exposure across all phases of MBBS training. For postgraduate education, GMERS Himmatnagar offers DNB (Diplomate of National Board) courses across multiple clinical specialties. PG admission is conducted via NEET PG counselling through MCC (for AIQ seats) and ACPPGMEC (for Gujarat State Quota seats). The monthly stipend for DNB residents is INR 84,000 in the 1st year, INR 85,400 in the 2nd year, and INR 87,500 in the 3rd year, making it a financially supportive environment for postgraduate training.
