About GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Navsari
GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Navsari is a premier government-society medical institution established in 2022 under the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), which is administered by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat. The college received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC), New Delhi, for admitting 100 MBBS students per year commencing from the academic session 2022-23, making it one of the newest additions to the GMERS network of medical colleges in Gujarat. GMERS Navsari is affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), Surat — the premier university of South Gujarat — and is recognized by the NMC for its undergraduate MBBS program and DNB postgraduate courses. Situated in the historic and culturally vibrant city of Navsari in South Gujarat, the college is attached to the Mahatma Gandhi General (MGG) Hospital, Navsari — a multi-specialty government district hospital with a history dating back to 1964, located opposite Jahangir Talkies on Vejalpore Road, Navsari–396445. The hospital was upgraded and expanded to serve as the teaching hospital for the medical college, providing students with hands-on clinical exposure across a wide spectrum of medical specialties from their very first clinical posting. Navsari is strategically located approximately 50 km from Surat Airport (about 45 minutes by road), making it accessible for outstation and international students, and approximately 10 km from Navsari Railway Station, which is well-connected to major cities including Surat, Mumbai, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. The campus of GMERS Medical College Navsari is situated on a 30-acre green expanse thoughtfully designed to accommodate all academic and residential needs within a single secure environment. The campus includes the main college academic building, the attached teaching hospital (MGG Hospital with 500+ beds), an auditorium for academic and cultural activities, quarters for faculty/doctors and nursing staff, a resident doctors' hostel, boys' hostel, girls' hostel, a playground, cafeteria, and other supportive facilities. The campus layout ensures that students can commute between the college building, hospital, and hostels with minimal disruption to their academic schedule. The academic building is equipped with modern smart classrooms and state-of-the-art laboratories for pre-clinical and para-clinical training. Lecture halls are designed to accommodate large batches with audiovisual aids. The Central Library houses an extensive collection of up-to-date medical textbooks, Indian and international journals, and digital resources accessible through the Gujarat Government's Virtual Library program. An Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) is active and supports research activities, with research publications spanning 2020–2023 already listed on the official college portal. The MBBS program at GMERS Navsari follows the NMC-mandated Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, structured across four phases. 1st MBBS spans 14 months covering Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, and Community Medicine. 2nd MBBS covers 12 months with Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, and Community Medicine. 3rd MBBS spans 28 months (including 2 months of electives) covering all clinical subjects: Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Pulmonary Medicine, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology, Skin & VD, ENT, Radiology, and Dentistry. The attached Mahatma Gandhi General (MGG) Hospital, Navsari offers more than 500 beds with 24×7 emergency and outpatient/inpatient services. The hospital is equipped with full-fledged diagnostic laboratory and blood bank services, radiology, pharmacy, and a wide range of clinical specialties including General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, TB and Respiratory Medicine, and Community Medicine. The hospital actively engages with the community through health camps and awareness programs. Super-specialty services are also available as listed on the official hospital portal. For postgraduate education, GMERS Navsari offers DNB (Diplomate of National Board) courses across multiple specialties. DNB admissions are conducted via NEET PG counselling through MCC/NBE (for AIQ/DNB quota) and ACPPGMEC (for Gujarat State Quota). Hostel facilities with mess services are available separately for boys and girls, both within the campus, along with a resident doctors' hostel for interns and DNB residents. The hostels provide furnished rooms, nutritious hygienic meals, reading areas, internet connectivity, and 24-hour security. Recreational facilities include a playground and indoor games. The college is strictly ragging-free in compliance with the Prevention of Ragging Regulation, 2009, with the toll-free Anti-Ragging Helpline (1800-180-5522) active throughout the year.
