About GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Vadnagar, Mehsana

GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Vadnagar, Mehsana is a distinguished government-society medical institution established in 2017 under the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), managed by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat. The college received its Letter of Permission (LOP) from the Medical Council of India (now NMC) on 31st May 2017, and admitted its inaugural batch of 150 MBBS students in the 2017-18 academic year. In 2019, the MBBS intake was expanded to 200 seats. The college is affiliated with Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University (HNGU), Patan — a prominent university of North Gujarat — and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Notably, GMERS Vadnagar has been accredited with an 'A' grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and also participates in the NIRF ranking framework, with a dedicated NIRF section on its official website. It is also recognized as an Institute of National Importance. Vadnagar is one of the most historically and culturally significant cities in Gujarat — it is an ancient town with over 2,500 years of documented history, best known as the birthplace of former Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Located in Mehsana district in North Gujarat, the city is approximately 100 km from Ahmedabad and 70 km from Gandhinagar. The college is situated at Kharvad Medan, Sipor Road, Vadnagar–384355. The nearest major railway station is Vadnagar Railway Station (approximately 2–3 km), with the campus also accessible from Mehsana Railway Junction (30 km) on the main Ahmedabad–Delhi railway line. The nearest airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, approximately 93 km away. The college campus spans 28 acres of lush green land, thoughtfully designed to house the main college academic building, a dedicated teaching hospital (Civil Hospital, Vadnagar — operational since 1964), resident doctors' quarters, doctors' staff quarters, boys' hostel (capacity: 350), girls' hostel (capacity: 350), playground, and various student and faculty support facilities. The entire campus is designed to provide a self-contained, secure, and academically enriching environment for students. The academic building features 19 pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical departments spanning Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, ENT, Ophthalmology, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, Radiodiagnosis, Dermatology, Psychiatry, TB & Respiratory Medicine, and Dentistry. The college follows the NMC-mandated Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, with active First MBBS and Second MBBS timetables, Foundation Course structure, and a phased clinical curriculum. MBBS curriculum documents from all four years (First, Second, Third Year Part 1 & Part 2) are published on the official website. The Medical Education Unit (MEU), CME programs, workshops, and the ADR Monitoring Cell (Pharmacovigilance Programme of India) are all active. The Central Library is located on the second floor of the college building, spanning approximately 2,400 square metres. It houses 4,010 books and magazines, including Indian and foreign medical journals. There are two student reading rooms (each with capacity for 75 students) and one staff reading room. The library is open all weekdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with e-library facilities including 40 computers available for digital learning and research. Annual examination results, student merit lists (2017-2018 to 2021-2022), and role of honour lists are maintained and published on the official portal. The attached Civil Hospital, Vadnagar — operational since 1964 — serves as the primary teaching hospital and has a functional bed capacity of approximately 300–650 beds (bed distribution data published via official portal PDF), expanding progressively to meet NMC requirements. The hospital offers 24×7 emergency services, Trauma ICU, NICU, PICU, Blood Bank, Dialysis, Radiology (Digital X-Ray, MRI, Sonography), Pharmacy, and comprehensive OPD and IPD across all major clinical specialties. Ventilators in Trauma ICU, Laboratory Information System (LIS), and RO plant are among the documented hospital infrastructure upgrades. CM SETU program for Super-Specialty consultants is active at GMERS Vadnagar. Hostel facilities are excellent — separate boys' and girls' hostels with capacity of 350 each, with furnished rooms, in-house mess and canteen with hygienic meals, gymnasium, volleyball court, badminton court, indoor games (table tennis, carrom), internet/Wi-Fi, 24-hour water supply, and security. Annual hostel fee is INR 6,000 per year (girls' hostel; boys' fee comparable). A dedicated bus facility exists for transportation to and from campus. An important policy clearly stated on the official GMERS Vadnagar homepage: this is a Government Self-Finance Institute; ALL admissions (SFI & NRI) are through ACPUGMEC (medadmgujarat.org) by merit only. There is NO management quota. Even after the last counselling round, if a seat is vacant, admission is NOT given by the institute. If any person demands money for admission, inform the Vigilance Cell of the Government of Gujarat. With its NAAC 'A' grade accreditation, NMC recognition, NIRF participation, Institute of National Importance designation, historical significance of the city of Vadnagar, transparent admissions, and robust clinical training at a 300–650-bed hospital, GMERS Medical College, Vadnagar is one of the most credentialed GMERS institutions in Gujarat.
