About Government Medical College, Akola

Government Medical College, Akola (GMC Akola) was established in 2002 as the first medical college in the Akola region of Vidarbha, Maharashtra. It is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Administered by the Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER), Government of Maharashtra, GMC Akola provides health care services to the underprivileged population of four districts surrounding Akola. The campus is a lush green area housing the college, administrative office, and hostel buildings. It offers spacious classrooms, lecture halls, examination halls, demonstration rooms, fully equipped clinical laboratories, museums, and an auditorium with a capacity of 700. The central library has 18,868 books (17,648 textbooks + 1,220 reference books) and 139 journals. The college offers MBBS (200 seats), MD/MS (43 seats across 13 disciplines), PG Diplomas, and DMLT programmes. The attached 680-bed multi-specialty tertiary care teaching hospital handles on-campus specialist care available 24ร—7 with 5 teaching units and 150-bedded indoor wards. GMC Akola ranks 282nd nationally and 25th in Maharashtra per NIRF 2025 and is approximately 7 km from Akola Railway Junction with easy access for outstation students.
