About Government Medical College, Anantnag
Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag is a premier government medical college established in 2019 by the J&K UT Administration under a centrally sponsored scheme of MoHFW, GoI. Located at Verinag Anantnag Road, Anantnag, in the beautiful Kashmir Valley – 55 km south of Srinagar – the college is the first medical college in South Kashmir and serves as a critical healthcare education and service hub for the region. It is affiliated with the University of Kashmir and recognised by NMC. The college occupies a 12-acre campus with modern academic blocks, labs, a central library (4,000+ books, 50-student seating), and separate boys/girls hostels. The attached Associated Hospital (District Hospital Anantnag – MMABH) is the major tertiary care referral hospital for South Kashmir with 500+ teaching beds. The college offers 100 MBBS seats annually, PG MD/MS courses across multiple disciplines, and 32 DNB seats.
