Government Medical College (GMC), Churachandpur, represents a landmark achievement in medical education for Northeast India — established in 2022, it holds the distinction of being the first government medical college in the hill districts of Manipur and the third government medical institution in the state overall. Located at Hiangtam Lamka on the I.B. Road, Churachandpur district, the college is approximately 60 km from Imphal, the state capital, and is accessible from the Imphal Tulihal International Airport through national highways. Founded as part of the Manipur Government's strategic plan to strengthen medical education and extend quality healthcare access to the interior hill districts of the state, GMC Churachandpur is affiliated with Manipur University, Imphal, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college offers the MBBS program with an annual intake of 100 students, following the NMC-mandated curriculum of 4.5 years of academic training followed by a compulsory one-year rotating medical internship. Admission is conducted through NEET UG scores: 15% seats are filled through MCC All India Quota counselling, and the remaining 85% seats are filled through state counselling conducted by the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur. As a government institution, fees at GMC Churachandpur are highly subsidized. The total MBBS course fee is reported to be approximately ₹5,00,000 for the entire program, making it one of the most affordable medical colleges in Manipur and Northeast India. Hostel facilities are provided for both male and female students. The boys' hostel has 50 rooms with 100 beds, while the girls' hostel has 60 rooms with 120 beds, with 2–3 students sharing per room.
