Government Medical College, Mahasamund (GMC Mahasamund) is one of the newest government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh, established in 2022 under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education, Government of Chhattisgarh. It is affiliated with Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial Health Sciences and Ayush University, Raipur, and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college was built with the vision of correcting regional imbalances in tertiary-level healthcare and providing quality medical education to students from Mahasamund and the surrounding districts of central Chhattisgarh. The campus spans approximately 90 acres at Kharora, Mahasamund, making it one of the largest campus footprints among CG government medical colleges. Infrastructure includes a state-of-the-art medical college building, hospital complex, residential quarters, hostels, and other essential services. Mahasamund is strategically located approximately 55 km from Raipur (the state capital), 40 km from Swami Vivekananda Airport, and close to Mahasamund Railway Station — ensuring excellent connectivity. The college is attached to GMC Hospital Mahasamund, a modern multi-specialty teaching hospital with 400 beds and 1,200+ daily OPD patients, distributed across all clinical specialties with advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. The central library has 8,400+ books and 94 medical journals (65 Indian, 29 foreign). The auditorium has a 1,500-seat capacity. Currently only the MBBS programme (125 seats) is offered; PG courses are expected once the first MBBS batch graduates and NMC approvals are obtained.
