Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) Admissions

Admission Process Overview

Below is the complete admission information including eligible exams, eligibility criteria, admission process, and important notes for each program offered.

Required Entrance Exams

CAT (MBA, MBA-BA, MBA-HR); IPMAT conducted by IIM Indore (IPM); CAT / GMAT / GRE / GATE or IAAT (Executive MBA); CAT / GATE / GMAT / GRE / JAM (M.Sc. in Data Science and Management)

Eligibility Criteria
MBA family: bachelor's degree with at least 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD) and a valid CAT score above the category-wise minimum percentiles (for CAT 2025, 90 overall for General and EWS, 80 NC-OBC, 55 SC, 40 ST and PwD, along with sectional minimums); final-year students may apply if they finish all requirements by 30 June 2026. IPM: Class XII with Mathematics, age up to 20 years as of 1 August 2026. EMBA: graduation plus three years of work experience.
Admission Process
Two-stage composite-score process for the MBA batch of 2026-28: (1) candidates meeting the CAT sectional and overall minimums are ranked on a pre-PI score (CAT 50%, Class 10 10%, Class 12 10%, graduation 5%, gender diversity 10%, work experience 15%), with Class 10 and 12 marks normalised against the 90th percentile of each board; (2) shortlisted candidates appear for a Personal Interview and are scored on PI 70%, work experience 10%, gender diversity 10% and academic diversity 10%. The final rank uses aggregate score = 0.7 x pre-PI score + 0.3 x post-PI score, applied uniformly across categories, with offers made category-wise on that rank. The MBA-BA and MBA-HR processes follow the same policy. Admission for the 2026-28 batch is complete; the next MBA cycle (2027-29) uses CAT 2026 scores.

Admission Process at IIM Amritsar

Eligibility Criteria

  • MBA, MBA-BA and MBA-HR: bachelor's degree of at least three years with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC, ST and PwD) and a valid CAT score above the category-wise minimum percentiles.
  • Final-year students can apply provided they complete all degree requirements by the stated deadline (30 June 2026 for the 2026-28 batch).
  • IPM: Class 12 with Mathematics, at least 60% in Class 10 and 12 with category-wise relaxations, a valid IPMAT score and an age limit of 20 years as of 1 August 2026.
  • Executive MBA: bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks, three years of work experience and a valid CAT, GMAT, GRE or GATE score, or the IIM Amritsar Admission Test (IAAT).
  • M.Sc. in Data Science and Management: bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks and a valid CAT, GATE, GMAT, GRE or JAM score.

Selection Process for the MBA

For the 2026-28 batch, candidates first had to meet minimum sectional and overall CAT percentiles. Eligible candidates were ranked on a pre-PI score in which CAT carries 50%, Class 10 marks 10%, Class 12 marks 10%, graduation marks 5%, gender diversity 10% and work experience 15%, with school marks normalised against the 90th percentile of each board. Shortlisted candidates then appeared for a Personal Interview, and the post-PI score gave 70% to the interview and 10% each to work experience, gender diversity and academic diversity.

The final rank is calculated as 0.7 times the pre-PI score plus 0.3 times the post-PI score, applied uniformly across categories, and offers are made category-wise on that rank. The MBA-BA and MBA-HR programmes follow the same policy, so a single CAT score can be used for all three programmes.

Other Entry Routes and Timeline

The Integrated Program in Management is admitted through IPMAT conducted by IIM Indore, followed by a Personal Interview and a composite-score merit list. The Executive MBA applicants need a valid test score or IAAT followed by an interview, while the M.Sc. programme requires a national test score and an interview, with an application fee of INR 1,000 (INR 500 for SC and ST candidates). Admission for the 2026-28 MBA batch is complete, and the next MBA cycle for the 2027-29 batch uses CAT 2026 scores. Accepted candidates pay an admission acceptance fee of INR 1,00,000, which is adjusted against the Term-I fee and includes a refundable caution deposit of INR 50,000.
