Indian Institute of Management Guwahati admits students to its two-year MBA through the Common Admission Test. As the institute started its first batch in 2026, there is no history of closing percentiles or final cut-off scores that can be shown for earlier years. What the institute has published are the minimum eligibility cut-offs for the 2026-28 batch based on CAT 2025. A candidate must meet both the overall percentile and the sectional percentile in each of the three CAT sections, and must also obtain a positive raw score in every section, to be considered for the next stage.

CAT Cutoff for MBA at Indian Institute of Management Guwahati
| Category | Overall Percentile | Sectional Percentile (VARC, DILR, QA) |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 85 | 75 |
| NC-OBC | 80 | 70 |
| SC | 75 | 65 |
| ST | 65 | 55 |
| General / EWS (PwD) | 75 | 65 |
| NC-OBC (PwD) | 70 | 60 |
| SC (PwD) | 65 | 55 |
| ST (PwD) | 55 | 45 |
These are minimum thresholds and not the scores at which candidates were finally admitted. Meeting them only places a candidate in the Stage 1 shortlist. Shortlisted candidates receive an email with a link to the online application form, and the final selection is based on the Composite Score, which is computed as 0.65 times the normalised CAT score plus 0.35 times the normalised application rating. The application rating draws on Class 10, Class 12 and bachelor's performance and work experience, so a high CAT percentile alone does not guarantee a seat.
Candidates are ranked separately within each category. The planned batch size for 2026-28 is 70 seats: 28 General, 7 EWS, 19 NC-OBC, 11 SC and 5 ST, of which 3 seats are for candidates with benchmark disabilities, one each in the General, NC-OBC and SC categories. The institute has also noted that the admission process is independent of other IIMs, so the lists of shortlisted candidates may differ from those of other institutes. The final cut-off for each category will depend on the applicant pool in a given year.
- Overall and sectional CAT percentile cut-offs must both be met
- A positive raw score in each CAT section is mandatory
- Composite Score is 65 percent CAT and 35 percent application rating
- Class 10, Class 12, bachelor's marks and work experience add to the rating
- No Written Ability Test or Personal Interview as of now
The institute has said that the details of the selection criteria, including the cut-offs, may change from year to year, and that it reserves the right to modify its admission policy in light of CAT data. Candidates preparing for the next cycle should therefore treat the 2026-28 numbers as a guide and not as a guarantee. A strong overall percentile with balanced sectional scores and a good academic record gives the best chance of being shortlisted and selected. For more details, see the admission process.
As more batches are admitted, closing scores and category-wise trends will become clearer. For more details, see the cutoff page.
