IGMC Shimla was established in 1966 as Himachal Pradesh Medical College (HPMC). It was renamed Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in 1984. It started with 50 MBBS students, expanded to 65, then 100, and now 120 seats. It is the first and oldest medical college in Himachal Pradesh.
