Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow — popularly known as IET Lucknow or simply 'Engineering College' in Lucknow — is one of the most prestigious and oldest government-funded technical institutes in Uttar Pradesh. Established on 19 November 1984 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the institute began its journey as the 'Faculty of Engineering and Technology' under the University of Lucknow. Over the decades, it has grown into a fully autonomous constituent institute of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, administering its academic, research, and administrative affairs independently under the Executive Council of AKTU. History and Legacy: IET Lucknow was inaugurated with the specific objective of producing quality engineers across various technical disciplines. The institute started modestly with around 200 students, and over four decades has expanded to a thriving student strength of more than 2,800 students. The initial departments included Civil Engineering, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering. The campus was developed by Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd (UPRNN) on a 100-acre land provided by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) supported the construction of external roads, electric supply, drainage and sewage for the institute. Over time, the institute expanded its course offerings to include Computer Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, MBA, MCA, M.Tech, and Ph.D. programmes. Academics and Departments: IET Lucknow offers more than 25 programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The primary undergraduate programme is B.Tech across seven branches: Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Civil Engineering (CE), Chemical Engineering (CH), Electronics & Communication Engineering (EC), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and the newly introduced CSE with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence. Postgraduate programmes include M.Tech (all branches), MCA, and MBA under Self Finance mode. Doctoral research (Ph.D.) is available across all engineering departments and allied sciences. Faculty and Research: IET Lucknow boasts an experienced academic faculty of 120 teaching staff and 350 administrative staff. The institute has active research programmes contributing to patent filings and publications in national and international journals. Over 20% patent filing activity has been recorded. Accreditation and Rankings: IET Lucknow is recognised by AICTE and UGC, and accredited by NBA for multiple B.Tech programmes. In NIRF 2024, IET Lucknow was placed in the 101-150 band for Engineering and ranked 97th in the University Category. IIRF ranked IET Lucknow 91st for B.Tech in 2023. Campus and Infrastructure: Spread across a 100-acre urban campus on Sitapur Road, Lucknow, IET is fully residential. The campus comprises Administrative Blocks, Academic Blocks, Boys' and Girls' Hostels, nearly 100 staff residences, NBA-accredited laboratories, a central library, computer centres with 180+ systems, an auditorium, seminar halls, video-conferencing facilities, and Wi-Fi throughout. The campus also features a medical centre, gymnasium, canteen, mess, bank, shopping complex, EV charging station, solar-powered hostels, and rainwater harvesting. Hostel Facilities: IET Lucknow is fully residential with separate boys' and girls' hostels on campus. Hostel fee for B.Tech/MCA/MBA: Rs.14,500 per year. M.Tech/Ph.D.: Rs.7,250 per semester. Hostel Management charges of Rs.4,000 are payable separately. Mess charges are communicated separately by the Chief Warden. Placements: In 2024-25, 518 students were placed by 90+ companies.
