The Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (IPGMER), Kolkata, popularly known as SSKM Hospital or PG Hospital (Presidency General Hospital), is one of the oldest, most prestigious, and largest public medical colleges and tertiary teaching hospitals in India. The institution traces its origins to 1707 as the Presidency Hospital, evolved into a teaching institute, and was formally inaugurated as a Postgraduate Medical Institute in 1957 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), IPGMER is a multi-level healthcare education hub offering MBBS, MD/MS, DM/MCh, PhD, Nursing, and Paramedical programs. It is recognized as a Centre of Excellence in Medical Education and Research and is the first institution in Eastern and Northeast India to receive Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) status. The institute is co-located with the Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital, one of the most advanced and high-footfall tertiary-care hospitals in Eastern India. Located in the cultural heart of Kolkata near Victoria Memorial, Race Course Ground, and Rabindra Sadan, the campus is centrally positioned and well-connected.

Library
The Medical College Library is situated on the 7th floor of the Academic Building. It has two separate sections for UG and PG students. The library houses over 29,000 biomedical journals, access to 289+ e-journals, a large collection of theses, reference books, and digital resources. Online access to PubMed, Cochrane, and other international databases is available.

Sports Complex
A dedicated sports complex with a cricket ground, football field, badminton courts, and an on-campus gymnasium. Facilities support indoor and outdoor sporting activities for students and residents.

Classrooms & Academic Block
The Academic Building was established in 2014 and serves as the main teaching facility in the heart of the hospital campus. Facilities include smart classrooms with audio-visual equipment, lecture theatres (Ronald Ross Building, UCM Building, Psychiatry Building, Old Emergency Building), anatomy and physiology museums, and seminar halls. A 750-seater auditorium is also available for large academic events.

Hostel & Campus Life
Three UG hostels (separate boys and girls blocks) and one PG hostel, all within the campus. Double-occupancy rooms with balconies, CCTV surveillance, water purifiers and coolers, parking, and internet access in academic blocks. Multiple canteens serve hygienic food at subsidized rates. A health centre, photocopy centres, post office, and fair-price medicine shop are also on campus. Annual cultural fest 'CRUX' held around August–September fosters student community life.

Laboratories
State-of-the-art pre-clinical and para-clinical laboratories for Anatomy (dissection halls with cadavers), Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, and Pharmacology. Advanced diagnostic labs, ICU setups, and super-specialty labs within SSKM Hospital supplement academic learning. NABL-accredited Oncopathology laboratory on campus.

Sports Complex
