About Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA)

Official website

The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) was founded in 1979 in Anand, Gujarat, under the leadership of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the 'Father of the White Revolution in India,' with support from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, and the erstwhile Indian Dairy Corporation. It was established to create professional rural managers capable of handling the complex rural environment encountered during Operation Flood, the world's largest dairy development programme. IRMA's stated mission is to promote sustainable, ecologically-friendly, and equitable socio-economic development of rural people through professional management, pursued via a distinctive pedagogy that combines classroom learning with intensive fieldwork -- including a Village Fieldwork Segment (VFS) and a Summer Internship Segment (SIS) -- across a fully residential, 60-acre green campus. IRMA offers three principal management programmes: the flagship two-year, fully residential MBA in Rural Management -- MBA(RM), until 2025 known as the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural Management) / PGDM(RM); the Fellow Programme in Management (Rural Management) -- FPM(RM), an AICTE-approved doctoral programme for research and teaching careers; and the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural Management-Executive) -- PGDM(RM-X), a 15-month full-time residential executive programme for working professionals. IRMA reports more than 3,000 alumni working as rural-sector leaders, policy influencers, and social entrepreneurs. IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT: Via the 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari University Bill, 2025 -- introduced in the Lok Sabha on 3 February 2025, passed by both houses of Parliament by 1 April 2025, and in force from 6 April 2025 -- IRMA has been converted by Act of Parliament into the 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari University (TSU), India's first dedicated cooperative-sector university and a Government-declared Institution of National Importance, named after Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, a founding architect of Amul. Under the Act, the erstwhile IRMA society is dissolved and IRMA is retained as TSU's 'Centre of Excellence for Rural Management,' continuing its existing academic programmes (renamed MBA(RM) from PGDM(RM)) under the University's Executive Council and a Government-appointed Vice-Chancellor, while the wider University is being built out with additional sector-specific schools (dairy, fisheries, sugar, banking, cooperative finance, etc.) on an expanded, Gujarat Government-allotted 125-acre campus in Anand. The official website (irma.ac.in) and IRMA's original branding, contacts, and admissions channels continue to be used for the Rural Management programmes as of this profile. IMPORTANT DATA CAVEATS: IRMA's official per-programme Fee Structure pages (e.g. the 'Fee Structure for MBA 2026-28' page) render their tuition/hostel/deposit tables via JavaScript that could not be captured through automated fetching, despite the page itself, contact details, and section headings loading correctly. The fee figures used in this profile are therefore drawn from multiple converging third-party admissions aggregators (GetMyUni, Shiksha, BoostMyTalent, Pagalguy, StudyRiser) rather than the official fee table directly, and should be verified against the official Fee Structure pages or admissions@irma.ac.in before being relied on for an actual admission decision. Likewise, the official Placements section did not render batch-wise figures for automated fetching; the placement figures here are drawn from third-party aggregator coverage of recent batches and should be cross-checked against the official Placements pages. Total intake/seat figures, hostel-fee breakdowns, and the exact current NAAC grade letter were similarly not confirmed directly from the official pages fetched and are flagged individually below.
