About JSS Medical College, Mysore
JSS Medical College, Mysuru — formally known as Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Medical College (JSSMC) — is one of India's most prestigious private deemed medical institutions, established in 1984-85 under the patronage of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSSAHER). JSS Mahavidyapeetha, the founding body, is a renowned Veerashaiva-Lingayat educational and religious trust that runs 300+ institutions across diverse disciplines from kindergarten to postdoctoral research. JSS Medical College was initially affiliated with RGUHS (from 1995-96), and became a constituent college of JSSAHER — a Deemed University under UGC Section 3 — from the academic year 2008-09. JSSAHER is ranked among the top 5 universities in India by THE (Times Higher Education) for societal impact (2019), ranked 93rd globally in the Clinical & Health category by THE World University Rankings 2022 (one of only two Indian institutions in the top 100 globally for Clinical & Health), accredited NAAC A+ Grade (CGPA 3.48), and recognised as a Category-I Deemed University by UGC. The college is approved by NMC for 250 MBBS seats, 164 PG seats in 23 disciplines, and 5 Super-Specialty (DM/M.Ch) courses. JSSMC is internationally recognized by the General Medical Council (UK), Sri Lanka Medical Council, WHO, and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK — MRCOG recognition) and is approved by DSIR as a research facility. The college has established research Centres of Excellence: Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology & Regenerative Medicine (with VGST, Government of Karnataka) and Centre for Clinical Research Excellence (CCRE — approved as a collegium of CDSA). Research funding received from ICMR, DST, DBT, VGST, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, JSSAHER, and international collaborations with the Mayo Clinic (USA), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), Latrobe University (Melbourne), Khon Kaen University (Thailand), and Quinnipiac University (USA). The 43-acre Sri Shivarathreeshwara Nagara campus at Bannimantap, Mysuru — 570015, approximately 10 km from Mysore Airport (Mandakalli) and 140 km from Bengaluru — houses the medical college, JSS Hospital (1,800 beds, 37 specialties), JSS Dental College, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS College of Nursing, and associated research institutes all under one roof. JSS Hospital is one of India's largest hospitals under one roof, treating 800–1,000 OPD patients daily, has 67 special clinics, and is NABH-accredited. NIRF 2024 ranks JSSMC 34th in the Medical category (ranked 17th in 2019, 24th in 2021, 37th in 2023). India Today 2025 ranks JSSMC 39th. According to NIRF 2023, 83 graduates were placed with 100% placement rate and median salary of ₹19.8 LPA.
