About Khaja Bandanawaz University - Faculty of Medical Sciences, Gulbarga
Khaja Bandanawaz University — Faculty of Medical Sciences (KBNU FMS), Gulbarga, formerly known as Khaja Bandanawaz Institute of Medical Sciences (KBNIMS), is one of North Karnataka's premier Muslim Religious Minority private medical institutions with over 25 years of experience in medical education. It was established in the year 2000 by The Khaja Education Society — founded in 1958, today running 15+ institutions across various disciplines — at the sacred spiritual site of Rauza-i-Buzurg (Khaja Colony), adjacent to the Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Banda Nawaz Gesu Daraz (a revered 15th-century Chishti Sufi saint), in Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), North Karnataka. The Faculty of Medical Sciences is a constituent unit of Khaja Bandanawaz University (KBNU) — a private university established by an Act of the Karnataka State Legislature — making it one of the very few medical institutions in Karnataka that issues degrees from its own private university (not from RGUHS). KBNU FMS is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), and its MBBS intake was increased from 100 to 150 seats in the academic year 2021-22, reflecting its growing reputation. The college has 187 faculty members, 429 experienced academic staff, and a 19-acre campus featuring well-ventilated and air-conditioned classrooms, modernized lecture halls, equipped examination halls, demonstration halls, and NMC-compliant departmental laboratories with latest technology-driven equipment. The attached KBNU/KBN Hospital is a 750+ bedded multi-specialty teaching hospital providing clinical training across all major specialties. The college also runs Para-Medical, Nursing courses, and PhD programmes. Located 6.1 km from Gulbarga Central Bus Stand (with 24×7 bus service) and 14.4 km from Kalaburagi Airport (KLB), KBNU FMS is well-connected by road to Hyderabad (225 km), Bengaluru (610 km), Pune and Mumbai. As a Muslim Minority institution, a significant proportion of management quota seats are reserved for Muslim Minority candidates. The college provides a peaceful learning environment in the spiritually significant Khaja Colony — a major pilgrimage and cultural hub for the Deccan region.
