King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, is one of India's most prestigious and historic medical institutions, established in 1911 as King George's Medical College and upgraded to university status in 2002. NAAC Grade A+ accredited and NIRF Medical Rank 8 (2025). Located on a 100-acre campus in central Lucknow adjacent to Chowk and River Gomti, KGMU offers 250 MBBS seats, 272 PG seats (MD/MS in 27 disciplines), 56 super-specialty DM/MCh seats (13 disciplines), BDS, B.Sc Nursing, Paramedical Diploma, and PhD. The Gandhi Memorial and Associated Hospitals (including Queen Mary's Hospital for women) complex has over 4,500 operational beds — making it one of the largest government tertiary care hospital complexes in North India. The hospital sees 10,000+ OPD patients daily and 15 lakh+ patients annually, with 1,00,000+ annual indoor admissions. KGMU has 3T MRI, CT scanners, robotic surgical systems, and advanced diagnostic infrastructure. It is one of only 5 medical colleges in India established under the Second Five-Year Plan and was founded during the British era.
