GMC Jagdalpur, established in 2006, is the second-oldest government medical college in Chhattisgarh (after CIMS Bilaspur, 2001). Named after Late Shri Baliram Kashyap — former Speaker of the Lok Sabha from Bastar — it is the primary medical education and tertiary care institution for southern Chhattisgarh's Bastar division, serving tribal and rural communities across 7 districts.
Collegedunia rating: 3.9/5 based on 9 verified reviews. Best rated for Social Life, Accommodation, and Academics. One student cited choosing Raigarh over Jagdalpur for city size — but Jagdalpur's hospital load and super-specialty infrastructure are rated better than most district-level CG GMCs.
The 500-bed hospital at GMC Jagdalpur handles 1,700+ OPD patients daily and 1,000+ IPD patients — exceptional for a district GMC. It has super-specialty departments (Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Paediatric Surgery, Facio-Maxillary, Dialysis), an Eye Bank, and a Burn Treatment Unit. This gives MBBS and PG students unusually rich clinical diversity for a non-metro institution.
