Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital (MJKMCH), Jajpur — formerly known as Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jajpur — is a government-funded medical college established in 2024 by the Government of Odisha at a total construction cost of ₹526.21 crore, located on a 46-acre campus at Ankula Square, near Jajpur town in Jajpur district. The college was formally renamed 'Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital' with effect from January 6, 2026, per official Government of Odisha notification — honouring the Somavanshi King Jajati Keshari, who established Abhinav Jajnagar (modern Jajpur) as the capital of his kingdom and commissioned construction of the magnificent Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar and many other important shrines of Odisha. This renaming was approved by then-CM Naveen Pattnaik following a request from the people of Jajpur district who wished to honour their ancient ruler. Jajpur district — situated in coastal northern Odisha on the banks of the Baitarani River — is an industrially significant and historically rich district, home to the Ferro Alloys Corporation (FACOR) and other industries, yet historically underserved by tertiary healthcare. The Union Cabinet had earlier approved the establishment of a government medical college and hospital in Jajpur town; the district administration handed over 2 acres of the earmarked 40 acres at Ankula Square for the initial phase. The 46-acre campus (significantly expanded from the originally earmarked 40 acres) now houses the medical college building, the 500-bed teaching hospital, and associated infrastructure. With the establishment of MJKMCH Jajpur, the total number of government medical colleges in Odisha rose to 12 — collectively producing 1,650 MBBS students per year — a significant milestone in Odisha's goal to have a government medical college in every district of the state.
