GMC Khandwa was established in 2017–18 as one of seven new government medical colleges set up by the Madhya Pradesh Government. In August 2021, it was renamed as 'Nandkumar Singh Chauhan Government Medical College, Khandwa' in honour of the late Shri Nandkumar Singh Chauhan, who served as MLA from Khandwa.
