National Institute of Technology Delhi (NIT Delhi or NITD) is one of the premier autonomous technical institutions in India, established in 2010 as part of the Government of India's 11th Five-Year Plan to expand quality technical education across the country. It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology recognized as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. NIT Delhi functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and is recognized by UGC and approved by AICTE. Initially mentored by NIT Warangal, NIT Delhi started its academic journey with three undergraduate B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The institute operated from temporary premises before shifting to its permanent campus at Narela in northwest Delhi in 2022. The permanent campus spans approximately 51 acres on NH-1, GT Karnal Road, Zone P1 of North-west Delhi district of NCT. NIT Delhi has expanded significantly since its founding. In 2022, it added B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. In 2023, B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science was launched. From 2024, the institute started B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering and VLSI Design and Technology, bringing the total to 8 B.Tech specializations. No branch change is permitted from AY 2022-23 onwards. The 6 departments are: Applied Science, Humanities & Management; Civil Engineering; Computer Science & Engineering; Electronics & Communication Engineering; Electrical Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. At the PG level, the institute offers M.Tech in 12 specializations via GATE/CCMT and PhD programmes across all engineering and science departments. NIT Delhi has delivered remarkable placement performance for a relatively young NIT. During placements 2025, over 230 companies visited the campus and made 417 job offers, placing 151 B.Tech and 100 M.Tech students. The highest B.Tech package was Rs 58.5 LPA, with an average of Rs 17.19 LPA and a median of Rs 14.75 LPA. The CSE department recorded 100% placement in 2025. Top M.Tech package was Rs 23.5 LPA with average Rs 8.58 LPA. Top recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, D.E. Shaw, Goldman Sachs, Samsung, Flipkart, Deloitte, Intel, Atlassian, Arcesium, ServiceNow, and Salesforce. NIT Delhi's NIRF trajectory has been remarkable: from 194th in Engineering in 2022, it leapt to 51st in 2023 and 45th in 2024, before settling at 65th in 2025 — a stabilization commonly observed after rapid expansion. The NIRF 2025 Graduation Outcome score is 71.26 and Outreach & Inclusivity score is 69.51, indicating high placement efficiency and a diverse student body. The campus infrastructure includes well-equipped labs, a central library with digital resources and NPTEL access, a fully Wi-Fi-enabled campus, separate hostels for boys and girls with AC (Rs 28,000/sem) and non-AC (Rs 18,000/sem) room options, a medical centre, sports facilities, and an active cultural and technical festival scene. The institute has Centres of Excellence including COE (UltraTech), PHN Lab, and Awadh Lab, and is funded by DST, SERB, and various government and industry bodies. Fee waivers: 100% tuition remission for family income below Rs 1 lakh/year; 2/3rd remission for income Rs 1–5 lakh; 100% tuition waiver for SC/ST/PwD students. Located on GT Karnal Road in Narela, Delhi, the campus is accessible via Delhi Metro Yellow Line to Jahangirpuri station, followed by DTC bus no. 120 to Narela.
