NIT Delhi was established in 2010 as one of the ten new NITs under the Government of India's 11th Five-Year Plan. It shifted to its permanent 51-acre campus on GT Karnal Road, Narela, Delhi in January 2022.

B.Tech admission is through JEE Main scores followed by JoSAA counselling (Home State quota for Delhi/NCT/Chandigarh; Other State quota for rest). M.Tech admission requires valid GATE score through CCMT counselling. PhD requires written test and personal interview (or GATE/NET score).

During placements 2025: highest package Rs 58.5 LPA, average Rs 17.19 LPA, median Rs 14.75 LPA for B.Tech. 230+ companies visited; 417 job offers made. CSE recorded 100% placement. M.Tech highest Rs 23.5 LPA, avg Rs 8.58 LPA.
