Every branch follows a mix of classroom teaching, laboratory sessions and workshop training, so that students learn both the theory and the hands-on techniques required on a shop floor or a construction site. Semester examinations are conducted by the affiliating body, and the theory and practical papers together decide the final diploma result. Students who wish to compare branches can also look at the demand for each trade in the region before choosing. The tuition fee details are the same across all five branches.
For first-year entry, a candidate must have passed the Class 10 examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, or an equivalent examination recognised by it, with the minimum marks prescribed by the state authorities. Admission is granted on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination through the centralised counselling run on the SAMS Odisha portal. Students who have completed Class 12 Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, a vocational course, or a two-year ITI in an engineering trade may be eligible for lateral entry into the third semester, subject to the seats available under the state rules. The complete eligibility rules are given in the admission eligibility section.
The fee for the diploma is listed at Rs. 26,500 per year, which makes the total tuition for the three-year course Rs. 79,500. Hostel, mess, transport, examination and other charges may be collected separately, so candidates should ask the college office for the complete payment schedule at the time of seat confirmation. Compared with many private technical institutes, the annual cost is moderate, and eligible students can lower the burden further with state and central scholarship schemes.
After completing the diploma, graduates can look for technician and supervisor roles, appear for junior engineer recruitment exams in government departments, or take lateral entry into B.Tech to earn a degree in three additional years. Since the institute has only a limited public placement record, students who aim for jobs should build skills in CAD, electrical safety, computer applications and communication during the course itself. The scope of these careers is explained on the career opportunities page.
