Courses Offered at North Odisha School of Engineering, Mayurbhanj
- Diploma in Civil Engineering (60 seats) - covers building construction, surveying, structural basics, estimating and site supervision for construction and infrastructure work
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering (120 seats) - covers electrical machines, power generation, transmission and distribution, wiring, protection and maintenance
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (120 seats) - covers machines, thermodynamics, manufacturing processes, workshop practice and drawing for production and maintenance roles
Teaching combines classroom lectures with laboratory sessions and workshop practice so that students understand both the theory and the hands-on side of each trade. Semester examinations are conducted by the affiliating body, and internal assessment together with theory and practical papers decides the final result. Because Electrical and Mechanical carry the largest intake, students have a wider chance of getting these branches through counselling, while Civil has a smaller number of seats. The tuition fee details are the same across the three branches.
For first-year entry, a candidate should have passed the Class 10 examination of the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, or an equivalent examination, with the minimum marks prescribed by the state. Admission is granted on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination through the centralised e-counselling process, and seats are filled in rounds. Candidates with Class 12 Science (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics), a vocational qualification or an ITI in an engineering trade may be eligible for lateral entry into the third semester, subject to availability of supernumerary seats. All eligibility rules are given in the admission eligibility section.
The fee for the diploma is Rs. 26,500 per year, which totals Rs. 79,500 for the three years. Charges such as examination fee, caution money, hostel or transport can differ, so candidates should ask the college office for the complete payment schedule at the time of seat confirmation. Compared with most private technical courses, the cost is moderate, and eligible students can lower it further with government scholarships available to diploma students in the state.
After completing the diploma, graduates can look for technician and supervisor jobs, prepare for junior engineer and technical assistant posts in government departments, or join the second year of a B.Tech programme through the lateral entry route. Students who wish to work directly should build additional skills in drafting software, electrical safety, workshop tools and communication. The scope of each branch is described on the career opportunities page.
