Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is the 14th government medical college of Assam and the 2nd in Guwahati (3rd counting AIIMS). Named after Pragjyotishpur — the ancient name of Guwahati meaning 'city of eastern lights' — the capital of the Kamrupa Kingdom (mentioned in Mahabharata and Kalika Purana). Foundation stone: 14 February 2022 at Kalapahar site. OPD services commenced and officially inaugurated on 1 February 2025 by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Campus: Gopinath Nagar, R.K. Mission Road area, Panikhaiti/Birubari, Guwahati. Built on 13.76 acres at ₹496 crore (CM official tweet). Total investment: ~₹675 crore. Academic building: built by Damani family (PM Modi initiative). Affiliated with SSUHS; NMC recognized. NMC MARB Seat Matrix (16 Oct 2025): 100 MBBS seats for AY 2025-26.
