The campus is situated near the Son Echo Point in the Markundi hills of Sonbhadra district. The natural surroundings with mountains and waterfalls provide a uniquely peaceful, distraction-free study environment. The campus is about 3 hours from Varanasi by road.

Admissions are through UPTAC (UP Technical Admission Counselling) based on JEE Main scores. Lateral entry for diploma holders into the 2nd year is also available via UPTAC Lateral Entry counselling.

REC Sonbhadra provides four hostels — three for boys and one for girls — with Wi-Fi, mess, security, and basic amenities. Hostel fee is Rs. 10,000/year (included in the total fee structure). A refundable hostel caution money of Rs. 1,000 is charged in the first year.

REC Sonbhadra offers B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering (60 seats), Electronics Engineering (60 seats), Electrical Engineering (60 seats), and Mining Engineering (30 seats). B.Tech Lateral Entry is available in CSE and Electronics Engineering (30 seats each).
