About Sardar Patel Medical College, Bikaner
Sardar Patel Medical College (SPMC), Bikaner is one of Rajasthan's oldest and most prestigious government medical institutions, established in 1959 and inaugurated by India's first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Originally named Bikaner Medical College, it was later renamed in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Affiliated with Marwar Medical University, Jodhpur (from AY 2025-26), the college offers 250 MBBS seats, extensive MD/MS PG courses across multiple disciplines, and DM/MCh super-speciality courses. Its attached PBM Hospital (Prince Bijay Memorial Hospital) is one of the largest government hospitals in Rajasthan with approximately 4,000 beds — a tertiary care referral centre serving Bikaner and the entire Shekhawati and western Rajasthan region. The campus offers a comprehensive library, boys' and girls' hostels with gym, sports facilities, canteen, and state-of-the-art departmental labs. SPMC is a NIRF-ranked institution (ranked approximately 62 out of 500 nationally by Collegedunia 2025) and is consistently ranked among India's top 20 government medical colleges by NEET preference.
