About DBAET's SBG Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital

DBAET's SBG Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital occupies an unusual position among Karnataka's private Ayurvedic colleges: it is one of the very few BAMS-granting institutions located directly within a major city โ€” Belgavi (formerly Belgaum), one of North Karnataka's largest urban centres โ€” rather than on the outskirts or in a semi-rural corridor. This city-centre positioning at Laxmi Tekadi, Ganeshpur Road, opposite Federal Bank, means that students benefit from full urban infrastructure, hospital access, public transport, and commerce, while the 10-acre campus still provides adequate space for academic blocks, a teaching hospital, hostel facilities, sports grounds, and a herbal garden.

DBAET's SBG Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital offers students courses in different areas. Candidates can enroll in UG programmes based on their interests and career goals. Admissions are offered based on merit or entrance exam performance. Check below the DBAET's SBG Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital courses along with their tuition fees and eligibility criteria:

SBG Ayurveda: A City-Located Ayurvedic Medical College With a Pre-Established Hospital

The institution was established in a distinctive sequence: the SBG hospital came first in 2017, followed by the academic college in 2019 under the management of the Dharwad Based Ayurveda Education Trust (DBAET). This two-year head start means the teaching hospital arrived at the college's founding as an already-operational clinical facility rather than a newly established infrastructure built concurrently with the academic programme โ€” a practical advantage for clinical training quality that is not always visible in surface-level institutional comparisons.

Regulatory Standing and Affiliation

SBG Ayurvedic Medical College is approved by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) โ€” the statutory regulatory body under the Ministry of AYUSH โ€” and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru. RGUHS is the apex health sciences university for Karnataka, and RGUHS affiliation is the primary academic credential for BAMS graduates from Karnataka's private colleges. Affiliation renewal documentation is published annually on the college website, with the college maintaining continuous RGUHS affiliation since 2019-20 and Ministry of AYUSH recognition renewed each year through the formal inspection and approval cycle. The institution's AYUSH code is AYU0580.

What Distinguishes SBG Ayurveda College Within North Karnataka

Most private Ayurvedic colleges in Karnataka are concentrated in the Bengaluru-Mysuru corridor or in semi-rural campuses in Dharwad and Belagavi districts on the city periphery. SBG's distinguishing factor is its prime Belgavi city address combined with a mature hospital infrastructure. For students from North Karnataka, Goa, and border districts of Maharashtra, a Belgavi location with rail and road connectivity to Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru is a meaningfully different proposition from institutions in smaller towns or distant semi-urban campuses, particularly for outstation students who want urban amenities and mobility alongside their Ayurvedic medical training.

The college's 13-department academic structure โ€” larger than the minimum required under NCISM norms for a 60-seat BAMS college โ€” and its parallel museum-equipped laboratory setup in each department reflects an investment in academic infrastructure that exceeds the regulatory baseline. The herbal garden (250 plants, 150 species) and the dedicated skating ground and cricket ground are additional campus features that distinguish SBG from institutions that meet minimum infrastructure requirements but offer little beyond.

Location and Connectivity

SBG Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital is located at CTS No. 4125/2B, Laxmi Tekadi, Ganeshpur Road, Opposite Federal Bank, Belgavi โ€“ 590009, Karnataka. Belgavi (Belagavi) is North Karnataka's largest city and a major transport junction. The city is served by Belagavi Airport, which connects to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Belgaum Railway Station (Belagavi Station) is a major stop on the Mumbai-Bengaluru railway corridor, making the college easily reachable from across Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka. The Ganeshpur Road campus location is well within the city, accessible by local buses, autorickshaws, and app-based cabs โ€” a significant day-to-day convenience advantage over colleges requiring dedicated transport from city centres.
