Courses Offered at SJGAMC Koppal – BAMS, MD Ayu, MS Ayu & PhD
BAMS – Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
The BAMS programme at SJGAMC Koppal is designed to produce well-rounded Ayurvedic physicians grounded in classical Ayurvedic theory and strong in clinical practice. The 4.5-year academic curriculum covers 14 departments — from foundational sciences (Rachana Shareera, Kriya Sharira, Dravyaguna) to clinical specialities (Kayachikitsa, Shalya Tantra, Prasuti Tantra) — followed by a mandatory one-year clinical internship at the attached 208-bed hospital. The 100 BAMS seats are distributed between state quota (filled via KEA Karnataka AYUSH counselling) and All India Quota (filled via AACCC). Eligibility requires a 10+2 qualification with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, with a minimum of 50% marks in PCB for General/OBC candidates (40% for SC/ST), and a valid NEET UG score.
MD (Ayu) – Postgraduate Specialisations
The MD (Ayu) programme at SJGAMC Koppal spans five specialisations: Dravyaguna (pharmacology and botanical sciences), Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana (Ayurvedic pharmaceutics), Swasthavritta (preventive and social medicine), Kaumarabhritya (paediatrics), and Panchakarma (purification therapies). Each is a 3-year full-time programme with a thesis component, following the RGUHS MD Ayurveda curriculum and NCISM norms. Admission is exclusively through AACCC centralised counselling based on AIAPGET rank.
MS (Ayu) – Surgical and Clinical Specialisations
The MS (Ayu) specialisations include Shalya Tantra (Ayurvedic surgery, led by Principal Dr. Mahantesh M. Salimath), Shalakya Tantra (eye, ENT, and dental care), Prasuti Tantra (obstetrics), and Stree Roga (gynaecology). These are 3-year clinical research programmes that give PG scholars intensive exposure to specialised patient care in the hospital. The college has a strong track record in Shalya Tantra given the Principal's expertise. The admission process for PG programmes follows AACCC guidelines. Students may also explore NEET PG cutoff trends on the cutoffs page.
