The campus junction is at Vencod on the Nedumangad road. Buses from Thiruvananthapuram city connect to Vattappara regularly.

SUTAMS was established in 2006 by the Sri Moogambigai Charitable and Educational Trust. The attached SUT Hospital was inaugurated earlier in 1987 by the Chief Minister of Kerala, at a time when tertiary care facilities were scarce in south Kerala. The medical college was set up to leverage the hospital's clinical infrastructure for medical education.
