"Tribhuvan" Sahkari University (TSU) is the transformed identity of the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), one of India's oldest and most respected rural-management institutes, founded in 1979 in Anand, Gujarat - the birthplace of India's dairy cooperative (Amul/GCMMF) movement. Through an Act of Parliament (Act No. 11 of 2025), IRMA was converted into TSU, a statutory Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Cooperation, positioned as India's (and per its own materials, the world's) first dedicated Cooperative University. Its guiding vision is captured in the phrase 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi' (prosperity through cooperation). TSU's academic and governance framework includes a Governing Board, an Executive Council, an Academic and Research Council, and specialised bodies for capacity building, assessment, research, and the affiliation of cooperative institutions nationwide. Beyond the founding IRMA school (Rural Management), TSU now operates additional constituent Schools: the School of Agribusiness Management, the School of Cooperative Banking & Finance, the School of Cooperative Management, the School of Governance, Development and Policy, and the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. TSU's flagship and, at present, sole postgraduate management programme is the two-year, full-time, fully residential MBA in Development Management and Cooperation (MBA-DMC) - the successor to IRMA's long-running Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM), now redesignated as an MBA. At the Anand campus, the MBA-DMC is offered across four specialisations - Rural Management, Agribusiness Management, Cooperative Management, and Cooperative Banking & Finance - each carrying the same fee and admission process. TSU has also begun offering an MBA-DMC specialisation in Public Policy & Managing Non-Profits at newer TSU campuses in Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, and Gadag for the 2026-28 batch, per an official TSU announcement. Admission does not use a TSU-run entrance exam; TSU shortlists candidates from CAT, XAT, CMAT, CUET-PG, GATE, GMAT, or GRE scores, followed by TSU's own Written Ability Test (TSUWAT) and a Personal Interview conducted at multiple centres across India. TSU states explicitly that it has no management quota - all seats are filled purely on merit through this centralised, exam-plus-TSUWAT-plus-PI process. IRMA/TSU has historically reported strong placement outcomes for its rural-management graduates, who go on to work across the cooperative, dairy, agribusiness, BFSI, FMCG, development, and consulting sectors, with core recruiters including GCMMF (Amul), NDDB, Mother Dairy, Banas Dairy, ITC, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and IDFC First Bank.
