Admission to most programmes at the University of Lucknow begins with obtaining a Lucknow University Registration Number (LURN) through the Samarth-based admission portal (lkounivadm.samarth.edu.in). Once registered, applicants can fill out the online application form for their chosen UG or PG programme(s) and, where required, register separately for the University Entrance Test (UGET for undergraduate programmes, PGET for postgraduate programmes). The university publishes detailed UG and PG Admission Information Brochures each year, laying out the exact eligibility, fee, and seat-matrix details for every affiliated college and programme participating in the centralised admission process.

Admission Process at University of Lucknow
After the entrance test, the university releases a subject-wise and category-wise cut-off/merit list, followed by an online choice-filling and counselling process through which candidates rank their preferred colleges and subject combinations. Seats are then allotted based on merit, category and preference, and allotted candidates must complete document verification and online fee submission within the notified deadline to confirm their seat, failing which they risk forfeiting it in the subsequent round. Professional programmes follow separate, parallel processes: MBA admission generally requires a valid CAT score along with the university's own selection criteria; B.Tech., B.Pharm. and MCA admissions are conducted through the state-level UPTAC counselling process; and integrated law programmes admit students based on their CLAT score and rank.
- Valid LURN registration and, where applicable, entrance test (UGET/PGET/CAT/CLAT) scorecard
- Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and passing certificates
- Bachelor's/Master's degree mark sheets and provisional/final degree certificate (for PG/Ph.D. applicants)
- Category certificate (OBC/SC/ST/EWS), where applicable
- Migration certificate/transfer certificate from the last institution attended
- Passport-size photographs and a valid photo ID
The university also runs a separate admission process for international students through an Online Application Form for NRI/NRI Sponsored Admission, and for Ph.D. applicants through session-wise notifications and interview schedules published department-wise on the official website. Applicants are encouraged to regularly check the admission process page and the official Notices & Circulars section, since deadlines, merit lists and counselling schedules are updated frequently during each admission cycle.
Because the University of Lucknow's centralised admission process also covers its 556 affiliated colleges, applicants filling out the online form get to indicate multiple college and subject-combination preferences within their chosen programme, and the allotment system works through these preferences in order of merit across rounds of counselling. This structure means a student's chances of a particular college or subject combination depend not just on their own entrance-test score but also on the overall applicant pool for that specific choice in a given year, so candidates are advised to list a realistic and sufficiently broad range of preferences rather than only the most competitive options, to improve their chances of securing a seat within the university system during the main counselling rounds.
