CAT 2026: Dates, Eligibility and Who Should Take It
CAT 2026 will be conducted by IIM Indore on 29 November 2026 in three shifts across roughly 170 cities. Registration opened on 3 August 2026 and closes on 15 September 2026 at 5 PM. This is the exam to prioritise if your target list includes any of the IIMs, since none of them accept XAT, SNAP or NMAT scores. Beyond the IIMs, CAT is also accepted by FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, IIFT through a joint admission process, SPJIMR and most of the top-tier non-IIM B-schools in India.
- Eligibility: a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks (45% for SC, ST and PwD candidates); final-year students can also apply provisionally.

XAT 2027: The Decision-Making Exam for XLRI and XAMI Institutes
A quick clarification first. Even though it is labelled XAT 2027, this exam belongs to the same 2026-27 application cycle as CAT 2026, and both feed into MBA batches starting in 2027. XLRI names its exam after the year of the test itself, which falls on 3 January 2027, so many aspirants simply refer to it as this year's XAT. Registration opened on 15 July 2026 and the last date to apply is 6 December 2026, with a possible short extension.
XAT is best suited to candidates who are comfortable with ambiguity. Its Decision Making section presents case-based situations rather than straightforward calculations, which is why many CAT toppers find XAT unexpectedly tough. The exam score is accepted by XLRI Jamshedpur and XLRI Delhi-NCR for their flagship MBA-BM and MBA-HR programmes, and by around 150 to 250 other B-schools including XIMB, GIM Goa and IMT Ghaziabad.

SNAP 2026: Symbiosis's In-House MBA Entrance Test
SNAP, the Symbiosis National Aptitude Test, is conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, and is mandatory for admission to its 17 institutes, including SIBM Pune, SCMHRD and SIBM Bangalore. Based on last year's pattern, registration is expected to open around the first week of August 2026 and close in mid-to-late November, with the test itself likely held across three sessions in December. As of this writing, Symbiosis has not released the official 2026 notification, so treat all SNAP 2026 dates as provisional until confirmed on the official site.
SNAP is only 60 minutes long, which makes speed and accuracy far more important than depth. Unlike CAT and XAT, you get up to three attempts, and only your best score across all attempts is used for shortlisting. This makes SNAP a good backup option even for aspirants who are primarily targeting CAT or XAT.

NMAT 2026 by GMAC: Flexibility Over Difficulty
NMAT by GMAC is the most flexible of the four exams. Registration opens on 20 August 2026 and closes on 10 October 2026, after which candidates get a 45-day window, from 2 November to 20 December 2026, to self-schedule their test at a centre or take it online in proctored mode from home. You can attempt NMAT up to three times (one attempt plus two retakes), and typically the best or an average of your scores is considered, depending on the accepting institute's policy.
NMAT is widely considered easier than CAT or XAT in terms of question difficulty, though the sectional time limits still demand speed. It is the primary gateway into NMIMS Mumbai and its other campuses, and is also accepted by around 50 other B-schools such as ICFAI Business School, Woxsen University and Alliance University.
- Eligibility: bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks; final-year students can apply.
- No upper age limit and no mandatory work experience requirement.

Which MBA Entrance Exam Should You Choose?
There is no single right answer here. Most serious MBA aspirants in India end up taking two or three of these exams together, since the registration windows overlap and the syllabus has significant common ground. Use the pointers below to decide where to focus your energy.
- Choose CAT if any IIM is on your list. It is compulsory for IIM admission and is also the most widely accepted exam overall, so it should be the default first choice for most aspirants.

Can You Prepare for All Four Exams Together?
Yes, and most aspirants do exactly this. CAT, XAT, SNAP and NMAT share a common core of Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, so a single, disciplined preparation plan covers roughly 70 to 80% of what you need across all four tests.
