Before you fill a single choice, you need to know how many seats exist and where. MCC has now put four seat-matrix PDFs online for NEET PG 2026 counselling, and each one covers a different pool of seats. Mix them up and you may chase a seat you cannot get, or skip one you could. This guide explains the NEET PG 2026 Round 1 Seat Matrix in plain English, based on the four official files.
The four files carry an October 2026 upload stamp, 15 October 2026 in their web addresses. The MCC counselling page we could read did not itself show a notice date, so treat that date as indicative and confirm on the portal.

What Is the NEET PG 2026 Round 1 Seat Matrix?

A seat matrix is MCC's list of seats on offer: institute, course, quota and category. It is not a result. The allotment result only comes later, after choice filling and locking, and depends on your rank, category and choices.
  • Seat matrix: what is available, before choice filling.
  • Allotment result: what you are actually given, after rank-based processing.
  • Cutoff or closing rank: known only after allotment. No 2026 category-wise cutoff exists yet, so any figure shown now is from earlier years.

Note: we could verify the total only for the Central Internal Quota file. For the other three, we report structure, not totals, because we could not read them end to end.

All India Quota MD/MS Seats 2026

This is the largest file. It lists seats by institute and course, with a category split. In the rows we read, seats sit under the 'All India' quota at government institutes, for example Andhra Pradesh colleges tagged 'All India except Central University'. Each course appears several times, once per category, so a course with 5 seats may take 4 to 5 rows.
How to use it: pick the courses you would take, shortlist institutes, then check which category rows show a seat for you. A course with no row for your category has no seat in that pool for you in this round.

Deemed University NEET PG Seats 2026

The deemed matrix is a separate file. It is not part of the AIQ file. The quotas we saw are NRI, Muslim Minority, Jain Minority and Self-Financed Merit Seat. Institutes include GITAM (Visakhapatnam), Hamdard (New Delhi), Amrita (Faridabad), JSS (Mysuru) and Manipal and Mangalore KMC campuses, among others in the file.
Check before choosing: the quota type (minority and NRI seats carry their own conditions), the fee for that quota, and whether your category qualifies. Fee amounts are not in the matrix, so check the institute and official counselling notice.

Central Internal Quota PG Seats 2026

This file is small and fully countable: 707 MD/MS seats across 12 institutes. The quotas named are Delhi University, IP University, BHU and AMU.

By course, the biggest pools are Anaesthesiology (92), General Medicine (73), Paediatrics (62), Obstetrics & Gynaecology (62) and General Surgery (56). Small pools like Geriatrics have just 1 seat.

DNB PG Seat Matrix 2026

DNB seats are kept apart from MD/MS. The file lists hospitals, government and private, with NBEMS and NBEMS-Diploma programmes. Seats are split into Open, EWS, OBC, SC and ST columns, each with a PwD column, plus a total. Many private hospital rows show only Open seats.

Category-Wise Cutoff: What the Matrix Does and Does Not Tell You

The matrices show category-wise seats, not cutoffs. Categories appear as BC, EW, OP, SC and ST in MD/MS files, and Open, EWS, OBC, SC, ST with PwD in the DNB file. We have no verified 2026 category-wise closing ranks. Use previous-year ranks only as a rough guide, and never as a 2026 promise. Our NEET PG predictor can help you shortlist.

How to Check College-Wise and Course-Wise Seats

  1. Open the MCC PG counselling page and go to the seat-matrix files.
  2. Download the PDF for your pool: AIQ, Deemed, Central Internal Quota or DNB.
  3. Use search (Ctrl+F) for your course name or code, such as GMED or ASTH.
  4. Note the institute, quota and category rows that apply to you.
  5. Build a shortlist, then compare it with your rank in a predictor.

How Students and Parents Should Use the Seat Matrix

  • Course first or college first: decide your priority, since many top courses have few seats.
  • Location: check travel, hostel and stipend rules for each institute.
  • Fees and bond: fees and service bonds are not in these matrices. Verify them from the institute and official notices before locking choices.
  • State seats: not covered here. Check your state counselling authority.

Important Points Before Choice Filling

  • A seat in the matrix is not a guaranteed allotment.
  • Seat numbers can change later, so recheck the latest MCC notices.
  • These four PDFs are not a complete state-wise matrix.
  • Follow the current official schedule and rules for registration, locking and reporting.
