DCRUST was established on 6th November 2006 by upgrading the Chhotu Ram State College of Engineering, Murthal (CRSCE), which itself was founded in 1986 by the Haryana Government in memory of Sir Chhotu Ram (1881–1945), the great agrarian leader. The upgrade was effected through Act 29 of 2006 of the Haryana Legislature.

B.Tech admission at DCRUST requires a valid JEE Main score. Admissions are conducted through Haryana State Technical Education Society (HSTES) online counselling. Haryana domicile students are given preference in the state quota. Lateral Entry (LEET) to 2nd year B.Tech is based on Diploma merit via HSTES LEET counselling.

As a government state university, DCRUST charges heavily subsidised fees. Total B.Tech fee is approximately INR 2.1 Lakhs for 4 years (2025-26). The odd semester fee is approx. INR 50,325 and the even semester fee is approx. INR 9,750. There is an additional one-time admission fee of INR 10,000 in the first year.

Yes. DCRUST has 7 hostels on campus — 4 for boys (total capacity: 966) and 3 for girls (total capacity: 450). Hostel fee is approximately INR 30,000 per year. Student reviews indicate the infrastructure in older hostels (particularly Hostel No. 1) needs renovation.
