About Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, SAS Nagar, Mohali
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS Mohali) is a fast-emerging government medical college established in 2021 by the Government of Punjab in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (SAS Nagar), Mohali. Named in honor of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar — the architect of the Indian Constitution and champion of social equality — AIMS Mohali embodies a mission to empower future doctors with knowledge, ethics, and compassion for all sections of society. Located at Sector 56, Civil Hospital Campus (near Sector 57), SAS Nagar Mohali — approximately 25 km from Chandigarh International Airport — AIMS Mohali is positioned at the heart of the Chandigarh tricity region. The location provides excellent connectivity to Chandigarh, Patiala, Ropar, and Pathankot, making it accessible to students from across the region. The college serves the healthcare needs of Mohali and adjacent districts of Ropar, Chandigarh, Patiala, and Pathankot. AIMS Mohali is affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Despite being a relatively new institution established in 2021, it has quickly gained recognition for its modern infrastructure, CBME-based academic curriculum, and its large attached government teaching hospital. The teaching hospital attached to AIMS Mohali is the Civil Hospital, SAS Nagar — a multi-specialty government hospital with 750+ beds. The hospital handles approximately 1,000+ outpatients daily, providing MBBS students with structured clinical postings and real-world exposure to diverse patient conditions. The hospital covers all major clinical specialties including General Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Emergency Care, and more. The academic campus features modern infrastructure including smart classrooms, state-of-the-art skill simulation labs, central library with books and e-resources, fully equipped laboratories for anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, a cafeteria, and Wi-Fi-enabled facilities. The campus has separate hostel and academic blocks. Hostel accommodation is provided for boys, girls, and intern students — hostel fees are approximately ₹44,375 per year for the boys' hostel. AIMS Mohali offers 100 MBBS seats annually. Admissions are conducted through: MCC counselling for 15% All India Quota seats; and BFUHS Punjab State counselling for 85% State Quota seats. As a new government college, AIMS Mohali offers highly affordable MBBS education — annual tuition fee is approximately ₹70,000–₹1,00,000 per year, making it one of the most economical medical education options in Punjab. Total MBBS course fees are well under ₹5 lakhs for state quota seats. NEET UG 2024 AIQ General category closing rank at AIMS Mohali was 14,833. Five candidates received AIQ allotment during NEET 2021–2024 combined counselling, reflecting competitive demand. PG programs are being planned for the near future as the college continues to grow. As a government institution, AIMS Mohali provides the classic advantages of government medical education — affordable fees, government service post-graduation, and exposure to diverse patient populations — in the strategically important and rapidly growing Mohali region. The institute is envisioned as a center of excellence for medical education and tertiary healthcare for the tricity region.
